There are many unresolved issues concerning the relationship between the sovereignty of the original nations and the aspirations of the major corporations that shape Canada’s economy. These have come to a head. The need to protect existing resource industries such as fishing and tourism to provide for future generations is now pitted against short-term profit from the exploitation of non-renewable oil, gas and water resources.
