The Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights (RWCHR) in partnership with Montreal’s Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies (MIGS), Amnesty International Francophone Canada, the Canadian International Council and the Centre for International Peace and Security Studies are convening the #RightsCity conference at an important historical moment – a resurgent global authoritarianism, massive assaults on human rights and the retreat of democracies. The conference will bring together international thinkers and human rights champions to address these challenges and highlight the leadership role that Montreal and Canada can play in advancing the cause of human rights. Speakers include, among others:
- Omar Abdulaziz, Saudi activist and friend of murdered Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi;
- Irwin Cotler, Chair of the Raoul Wallenberg Centre, former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada;
- Roméo Dallaire, Canadian retired Lieutenant-General and Senator, humanitarian advocate, founder of the Child Soldiers Initiative and MIGS Distinguished Senior Fellow;
- Adama Dieng, Special Advisor to the UN Security General on the Prevention of Genocide, former Registrar of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, legal and human rights expert;
- Jared Genser, International human rights lawyer, Managing Director of Perseus Strategies and Founder of Freedom Now;
- Yang Jianli, Chinese dissident and former political prisoner who was involved in the Tiananmen Square democracy movement;
- Rebiya Kadeer, Leader of the Uyghur National Movement and Former President of the World Uyghur Congress;
- Jennifer Welsh, Canada 150 Research Chair in Global Governance and Security at McGill University.
** On the occasion of the #RightsCity conference, the RWCHR in partnership with the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Africa will launch a groundbreaking report on the crisis in Cameroon, exposing the human rights catastrophe and concluding that reasonable grounds exist to believe that crimes against humanity have been committed.

Le Centre Raoul Wallenberg pour les droits de la personne (CRWDP), en partenariat avec l’Institut
d’études sur les génocides et les droits de la personne de Montréal (MIGS), Amnesty International
Francophone Canada, le Conseil international du Canada et le Centre d’études sur la paix et la sécurité internationale, organise la Conférence des #DroitsHumains, et ce à un moment historique – résurgence de l’autoritarisme à l’échelle mondiale, violations massives des droits de la personne et recul des démocraties. La conférence rassemblera des intellectuels de renommée internationale et de grands défenseurs des droits de la personne en vue de répondre à ces enjeux et de souligner le leadership que peut exercer le Canada dans la promotion des droits de la personne. Entre autres conférenciers, seront présents:
- Omar Abdulaziz, activiste saoudien et ami du journaliste saoudien assassiné Jamal Khashoggi;
- Irwin Cotler, président du Centre Raoul Wallenberg, ancien ministre de la Justice et procureur général du Canada;
- Roméo Dallaire, lieutenant-général canadien à la retraite et sénateur, militant humanitaire, fondateur de Child Soldiers Initiative et membre émérite et distingué du MIGS;
- Adama Dieng, conseiller spécial pour la prévention du génocide auprès du Secrétaire général de l’ONU, ancien Greffier du Tribunal pénal international pour le Rwanda, juriste et spécialiste des droits de la personne;
- Jared Genser, avocat international spécialisé dans les droits de la personne, directeur général du cabinet d’avocats Perseus Strategies et fondateur de Freedom Now;
- Yang Jianli, dissident chinois et ancien prisonnier politique, qui a participé au mouvement démocratique de la place Tiananmen;
- Rebiya Kadeer, chef de file du Mouvement national ouïghour et ancienne présidente du Congrès mondial des Ouïghours;
- Jennifer Welsh, titulaire de la chaire de recherche Canada 150 sur la gouvernance mondiale et la sécurité à l’Université McGill.
** À l’occasion de la conférence des #DroitsHumains, le CRWDP présentera officiellement, en partenariat avec le Centre pour les droits de la personne et la démocratie en Afrique, un rapport inédit sur la crise au Cameroun, exposant la situation catastrophique de ce pays en matière de droits de la personne et concluant qu’il existe des motifs raisonnables permettant de croire que des crimes contre l’humanité ont été commis dans ce pays.
