LRWC was among the signatories of a joint letter from international organisations and individuals seriously concerned about the situation of access to justice and lawyers’ ability to practice their profession, particularly for the defence of human rights. During the COVID-10 pandemic, judicial proceedings have been suspended, lawyers’ professional activity has been paralyzed. The pandemic has resulted in lawyers’ being confined to their homes, which has increased the threats and harassment they experience.
The signing organisations include:
- Colombian Caravana, UK registered charity that co-organises the International Caravana of Jurists
- Action4Justice, global civil society platform that was formed by a coalition of NGOs including Greenpeace, Oxfam, Transparency International, the Forest People’s Programme and IHRDA;
- Lawyers for Lawyers
- Lawyers’ Rights Watch Canada
- Fundación de la Abogacía Española (Foundation of Spanish Lawyers)
- Asociación Libre de Abogadas y Abogados (Free Association of Lawyers)
