Information received indicates the Royal Government of Cambodia has threatened to expel the Open Society Justice Initiative (OSJI) from the country or to revoke staff visas. OSJI is an international US-based organization that pursues law reform activities grounded in the protection of human rights. The organization operates the “Working Group on the Extraordinary Chambers” in Cambodia, a coalition of international NGO’s and individuals with pertinent expertise dedicated to ensuring that the investigation and prosecution of Khmer Rouge crimes by the Extraordinary Chambers is “fair, full and credible, and that it contributes to reconciliation efforts and advancement of the rule of law sought by Cambodians.”
On 14 February 2007, OSJI publicized allegations of corruption at the Khmer Rouge court, calling for a thorough investigation of the charges and greater transparency at the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC).
