Tatiana Morales Valdizon is the Special Prosecutor for Human Rights Defenders for the Public Prosecutors Office of Guatemala. Tatiana Morales Valdizon has the specific mandate of investigating human rights violations committed against human rights defenders.
LRWC received reports from a number of sources that Tatiana Morales Valdizon and other members of the Public Prosecutor’s Office had been targeted with acts of intimidation in January 2003 while investigating allegations implicating ex-members of the Department of Antinarcotics Operations (DOAN) in extrajudicial executions and other violations of human rights.
LRWC sent a letter to the government of Guatemala, urging the government to guarantee the security of Tatiana Morales Valdizon and other members of the Public Ministry and to investigate in depth this incident of intimidation. LRWC also urged the government of Guatemala to provide sufficient funds and to give the necessary political support to the Attorney General so he could investigate in depth all the violations of human rights in Guatemala and bring those responsible to justice.
